OLX was founded in 2006 by Fabrice Grinda and Alec Oxenford as an online classifieds platform. Grinda, an entrepreneur with a background in technology and marketplaces, and Oxenford, an experienced business leader, launched OLX to provide a simple, accessible way for people to buy and sell goods and services locally. Their vision was to create a global marketplace that would empower users by offering free classifieds and fostering community connections.
Since its launch, OLX has grown rapidly, becoming one of the largest classified platforms globally, with a presence in over 30 countries. The company’s success is driven by its user-friendly interface and commitment to facilitating safe, reliable transactions. OLX has continually evolved its platform to incorporate advanced technology, including AI and data analytics, to enhance user experience and improve transaction security.
In 2014, Alec Oxenford transitioned to an advisory role, and the company continued to thrive under new leadership. OLX remains a significant player in the online classifieds market, helping millions of users connect to buy, sell, and trade goods and services in a convenient and efficient manner.
